Cornwall Portraits

Here are some portraits I took last week during a family holiday in Cornwall. I wanted to test out the new formula colour shade Impossible film. 

It was sunny and windy and wet and sandy. Despite the yellowy/cyan cast, I kind of like the results.

Recent commission

Artist Sophie Smallhorn recently commissioned me to document her latest public artwork - a glass canopy linking two buildings in Victoria. 

It is a beautiful piece, which plays with the light, changing throughout the course of the day and interacting with the people below. Here are a few photographs from the shoot.

This ‘Me’ of Mine is an example of ‘distributed practice’, a phrase coined to describe the creative use of diverse networks taking artists beyond the boundaries of traditional art practice. It is a touring contemporary art exhibition which looks at self in relation to context. It presents issues of socialization and the influence of social groups, our connection to objects as a means to express emotion and to hold memories, the passage of time and limitations imposed by circumstance, and the effects of living in a digital age.

Duality

Looking through my archive of old images, I came across this photograph of a guy - Dave - I once met.  I still find something about him intriguing...

Winners of the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2013

Here are a few images I took on Monday night during the Award Ceremony of the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2013 at The Photographers' Gallery. 

Mike Figgis was presenting the award and Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin were the lucky winners!

A Chain of Wooded Mountains - Publication

KEEM's first publication A Chain of Wooded Mountains has arrived back from the printers, and includes a specially commissioned text by writer Matthew de Kersaint Giraudeau.

We are now looking into various options, and meeting with different publishers and print companies, before we go ahead with producing a limited edition print-run of the book.

Portrait play

A few days ago Emma McGarry and I took some portraits of one another. We hadn't planned to. It came about as a result of some test shots Emma was taking for a new project she is currently researching. We took it in turn to take each other's portrait, swapping between shots directed by the person taking photographs, to shots directed by the person being photographed. 

It became quite an interesting game, seeing both the similarities and the differences in the way one chooses to present themself in front of the camera, compared to the way in which the person behind the camera wants to portray that person.
