The Arts Club, Winter Exhibition

The opening of Media Space has been announced

A couple of weeks ago I was commissioned by the Science Museum in London to take some photos of the new Media Space - a collaboration between the Science Museum and the National Media Museum in Bradford - scheduled to open in June 2013.

Exhibition: A Chain of Wooded Mountains

On Thursday 1 November the KEEM exhibition A Chain of Wooded Mountains opened at Long White Cloud Gallery as part of Photomonth 2012.  The exhibition continues until 12 November.

Press Release: 

Last October KEEM travelled to the Balkans, taking 3 cameras and shooting 1237 photographs in 10 days. What happens when two people take the same trip, see the same things, and hold the same cameras? When does the memory of physically taking a photograph merge into the memory of the image produced? Through the amalgamation of two individuals' memories, boundaries start to blur, and lines start to cross over. 

 

There are common themes that run throughout the images, bringing elements of the individual practice of each of the KEEM artists to the forefront: the body, people in the landscape, architecture, the presence of two individuals, an intimate relationship.

Both members of KEEM have made a personal edit of 80 images from the original 1237 photographs. Here, they have selected a series of diptychs previously undisclosed to each other. The act of editing has taken on the same importance as the initial act of taking the photographs - opening up the first chance for conversation, comparison and influence.

The Landscape is a site-specific photo installation, forming part of the on-going public art project Time stands still when I think of you. The project derives from an archive of over 100 found family photos, the earliest of which dates from the turn of the nineteenth century.

Whilst previous installations from the project have focused on specific events or familial relationships, for Patio Projects #10 the wall of the patio space is transformed into a photographic montage of landscapes. The relationship between the environments depicted in the photographs, and how they intercept with the urban landscape of Hackney Downs, is central to the piece, the proximity of one affecting the reading of the other.

The World in London - installation shots

Last year I was commissioned by The Photographers' Gallery to take a portrait for The World in London - a large-scale, public art project which set out to bring together 204 portraits of 204 Londoners, each originating from a different nation that will be competing at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. WW Gallery is pleased to present GROUP 2012, an exhibition presenting the long-list for their inaugural Solo Award. From over 300 entries a long-list of 37 artists has been selected for exhibition. A distinguished panel of judges includes Sheila McGregor (Chief Executive, Axis, the online resource for contemporary art),Helen Sumpter (Art writer and Deputy Visual Art Editor of Time Out London ), Kate Davis (Artist & Tutor in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art) and Deb Covell (Artist & Co-founder Platform-A Gallery, Middlesbrough).

The overall winner will be announced on the 25th August and will receive prize money of £1000, a flexible three month residency from October to December 2012 and a solo show in January 2013.

WW is one of London’s leading contemporary artist-led spaces with a reputation for consistently forward-thinking and innovative projects, with sites in Clerkenwell and Hackney.

Yesterday saw the launch of The World in London, a major public art project initiated by The Photographers' Gallery. The portraits are exhibited as large-scale posters at two sites close to Olympic venues: on the external wall surrounding the BT London Live site in Victoria Park in East London, and across a city-block in Central London covering the façade of the new Park House development in Oxford Street.
